FRANK SINATRA
(December 12, 1915 - May 14, 1998)

by Lew Goodman

Frank Sinatra was born on December 12, 1915, 100 years ago today. He is my favorite artist of all time. If you weren’t so busy, I’d ask you to listen to several of his albums in their entireties—especially In the Wee Small Hours, Songs for Swingin’ Lovers!, A Swingin’ Affair!, and No One Cares. But in the meantime, I’ve chosen these seven songs for you. That’s right. Just seven. Surely, you have time for that. Listening to them in this order will show you why I think he was so great—a guy who could make the Rolling Stones seem dull in comparison and also make grown men cry.

However, if you’re really in a hurry, then I have two of his songs for you. Two freakin’ songs! Ears, don’t fail me now.
